Respectful Robins

Respectful Robins is a year 5 and 6 class. We have an inclusive, caring and supportive learning environment, which is based on our school values which are firmly embedded throughout the school. These values are courage, friendship, perseverance, curiosity, respect and love.

We have a super selection of books in our class library, and children read at school and take these books home every day. The books are appropriate to their book band reading level and children have a daily reading record that they, parents and/or teachers can write in.

We particularly love making the most of out beautiful outside areas, and getting creative.

This term's we are continuing to read 'The Wild Way Home' by Sophie Kirtley. It's an adventure book a young boy, who mysteriously finds himself transported to the Stone Age. It cover issues around friendship, loyalty and family.

This term in Geography we will be taking a closer at the impact of natural disasters on humans, with our focus being earthquakes. We will look at how the movement of tectonic plates effect the earths crust and triggers earthquakes, how earthquakes are measured, and how populations in built up areas can minimise the effects of earthquakes by constructing their buildings in certain ways. We will extend our exploration of the subject into our DT lessons where we will be trying to construct scale models of earthquake proof buildings, and testing out their durability.

Our enquiry question is:

How do earthquakes effect human populations?

In science we will be exploring all sorts of different forces and looking how we use them on a daily basis.

Our enquiry question is:

How do forces affect objects in everyday life?

.

We have weekly homework which is linked to our topic, and children can select from a range of activities, all based on our topic. They are asked to complete a minimum of 2 activities from this grid every 2-3 weeks. There is also a weekly maths and English homework which reflects current learning in the classroom.

We also continue to focus on learning times tables, with a daily '99 club' times tables test, and this can be further enhanced at home by using the Timestables Rockstars program at home. All pupils have their own logins which can be found in the front cover of their reading record books and can be accessed using this link https://ttrockstars.com/

If you have any questions or concerns please do email the school office, who will forward them to me. I am always available for a chat after school, and can arrange a meeting if you have anything you would like to discuss in greater depth.

The adults in the class are Mrs Trevisick, Mrs Jeffery and Mrs Barton.
