Respectful Robins
Respectful Robins is a year 5 and 6 class. We have an inclusive, caring and supportive learning environment, which is based on our school values which are firmly embedded throughout the school. These values are courage, friendship, perseverance, curiosity, respect and love.
We have a super selection of books in our class library, and children read at school and take these books home every day. The books are appropriate to their book band reading level and children have a daily reading record that they, parents and/or teachers can write in.
We particularly love making the most of out beautiful outside areas, and getting creative.
This term's shared text is 'Varmints' by Helen Waro and Mark Craste. This beautiful book tells of a pastoral world in need of protection and of the souls who love it enough to ensure its regeneration.
This term we will be taking a closer look at our local area. As young geographers we will explore just what makes the South Downs so special and with our history hats on, delve a bit deeper into the areas fascinating past.
Our Geography enquiry question is:
Can I carry out a local independent fieldwork enquiry?
Our focus over the next 2 terms is 'explore' and 'create' and this topic lends itself to all sorts of factual writing opportunities and also Art and DT projects.
In science we will be asking:
How can we use and control electricity in our lives?
We will look at the many ways that electricity is produced, explore how to make simple circuits with some hands on lessons and learn about how to stay safe around electricity too.
The 24-25 long term curriculum map shows all the other subject areas we will be studying during the Summer term.
We have weekly homework which is linked to our topic, and children can select from a range of activities, all based on our topic. They are asked to complete a minimum of 2 activities from this grid every 2-3 weeks. There is also a weekly maths and English homework which reflects current learning in the classroom.
We also continue to focus on learning times tables, with a daily '99 club' times tables test, and this can be further enhanced at home by using the Timestables Rockstars program at home. All pupils have their own logins which can be found in the front cover of their reading record books and can be accessed using this link https://ttrockstars.com/.
If you have any questions or concerns please do email the school office, who will forward them to me. I am always available for a chat after school, and can arrange a meeting if you have anything you would like to discuss in greater depth.
The adults in the class are Mrs Trevisick and Mrs Jeffery and Mr Tricket.
