Persevering Peregrines are a Year 3/4 class and they love learning!
In Peregrine Class we strive to have a happy, caring and supportive environment. We learn independently, in pairs and collaboratively in small and larger groups to always achieve our very best.
We are always looking out for children who are showing our school values, courage, friendship, perseverance, curiosity, respect and love. At the end of the week two children are awarded with a certificate for showing these values and become our stars of the week the following week.
We are lucky enough to have our own set of laptops and iPads in class. The children love to use these for research and to reinforce learning through games, coding and activities. We have a cosy book corner, where the children can relax and read, we have recently brought a wide range of new books by new authors and some of the children's recommendations.
This term we are learning all about the Maya civilisation. We will be focusing on culture with explorations of their music, art and food so there will be lots of scope for creativity! We will also be taking a closer look at Maya family life, and roles within the family.
Our class story is 'The Boy at the Back of the Class', which we base our daily guided reading sessions on. It tells the story of a 9 year old refugee from Syria and is all about the importance of friendship and kindness in a world that doesn't always make sense. The story fits in nicely with this terms Big Question, 'What does it mean to belong?'
We have weekly homework which is linked to our topic, and children can select from a range of activities, all based on their learning about the Maya. There is also a weekly maths homework which is times table based. We are continuing to focus on multiplication, and this can be further enhanced at home by using the Timestables Rockstars program at home. All pupils have their own logins https://ttrockstars.com/
We also have a weekly spelling test and all pupils have their own spelling group activity packs which they take home each week and which can also be accessed online if you go to https://www.spellingshed.com/
Our value this term is Friendship.
