Free School Meals

If you receive benefits, your child/ren could be provided with a free school meal.

East Sussex County Council can check if your child can get free school meals by checking your:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • National Insurance Number or National Asylum Seekers' Service Number

The above details must be for the person receiving the qualifying benefit - there is a list of these below.

You must receive one of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Job-Seekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,190
  • The Guarantee element of the State Pension Credit

You don't have to show paper proof of benefit

You don't have to reapply every year

Your child will get their free school meals sooner because the process is now faster

You can apply electronically at

eastsussex.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schools/meals/free/form

You can download an application form and bring this to the school office, or send it to the Admissions and Transport Team, County Hall, St Anne's Crescent, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 1SG
